Annie McKay, the incoming leader of Kansas Action for Children, will also serve in the Kansas Children’s Cabinet.
Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley, D-Topeka, named McKay on Thursday to the cabinet, which oversees use of tobacco settlement money received by Kansas that goes toward children’s programs.
McKay replaces Shannon Cotsoradis, the current president and CEO of KAC, on the cabinet.
“I am pleased to appoint Annie to the Kansas Children’s Cabinet,” said Hensley. “She brings extensive knowledge about policies impacting Kansas children and families. I’m confident she will continue the outstanding work of her predecessor, both on the Cabinet and as a legislative advocate.”
McKay is the director of the Kansas Center for Economic Growth and will become the president and CEO of KAC on June 1. McKay is from Kansas and holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and a graduate degree from the University of Chicago.
McKay will serve out the remainder of Costsoradis’ term on the cabinet, which ends June 2019.
KAC announced earlier this week Cotsoradis is leaving the organization to head the Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative.
